I Am The Way The Truth And The Life: Have We Missed The Point

I remember hearing that Gandhi once said that he was very disappointed in The Master (Jesus) because he said “I am the way the truth and the life” (John 14:6). He believed the there were many ways to God.

I have heard many Christian commentators say how disappointed in Gandhi they were because he did not see that there was no other way to God but by Jesus.

I Am The Way The Truth And The Life: Read beyond “The Way”

But has everybody missed the point.

Consider the words of Jesus as a whole: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

In Jesus you have to have the whole package:

  • Without the “the truth and the life”, “the way” is meaningless

Image of a one way sign in the forground of a road: This story is about, I Am The Way The Truth And The Life

    Way Truth And Life

  • Neither is it “the way + the truth + the life”
  • The way is the the truth and without the truth there is no way
  • The truth is the life and without it there is no truth
  • The life is the way and without it there is no life

Do you want life? Then you have to follow in the way of truth because without the way of truth there is only death. For real life and truth travel the same road.

Do you want to know the truth? Then the only path to follow is the path of life.

Do you want to know what path to choose in life? Seek the path of truth. For it is only the truth that gives life.

Like everything in life breaking things down often helps us understand things more easily. But it you don’t put those things back together you end up with an incomplete understanding. Each word in this statement of Jesus is integral to each other word and they can only understood properly when they are in relationship to each other.

If we only focus on “The Way“, as both Gandhi and many Christian commentators then we have missed the truth of what Jesus was saying and we are trying to find life in lies and you can find God (The Father) in lies.
